Cocaine is a powerful central nervous system stimulant that increases alertness, reduces appetite and the need for sleep, and produces instant feelings of euphoria. Crack cocaine is an extremely potent freebase form of the drug. The chronic cocaine user tends to administer the drug in high-dose "binges" interrupted by "crashes". The heavy user will appear nervous, agitated and excitable. Dramatic mood swings may occur, depending on how recently the drug has been taken. Users may experience symptoms of a toxic psychosis, including paranoid thinking. They may also become hypersensitive to sensory stimuli, sometimes to the point of visual and auditory hallucinations or sensations of insects crawling under their skin. Sleep disorders, eating disorders, and sexual dysfunction are all common among heavy users. Heavy users of cocaine often experience considerable social problems to which cocaine may contribute in several ways. Users may be so preoccupied with purchasing, preparing, using and recovering from the use of cocaine that other important areas of their lives are neglected. Drug-induced irritability also contributes to interpersonal problems, and job performance tends to suffer. The large amounts of money spent on consumption generally leads to financial difficulties and occasionally to serious legal problems. Users usually suffer from cocaine-related depression and users frequently have thoughts of suicide during this period and often see taking more cocaine as the only way out of the situation. Rehabilitation from cocaine addiction is possible. Rehabilitation from cocaine is crucial.

Cocaine Rehab

Rehabilitation from cocaine addiction is achievable with the help of Addington House. Addington is a minimum three-month residential treatment center where their goal is to provide a safe and supportive therapeutic program. An array of services to individuals with addiction problems within a structured environment will provide the individual with the necessary tools and life skills to lead a cocaine-free life. Follow-up treatment is also an essential part of cocaine rehabilitation and can be obtained at Addington House after the intense portion of the therapy is completed. A family support group and family/marriage counseling is also imperative to cocaine rehabilitation. Because of the complexity of the addiction of cocaine, rehabilitation must be just as multifaceted. A good rehabilitation program includes emotional, social, spiritual, psychological, and physical aspects of the person. Addington House offers this approach in their treatment of cocaine addiction. Cocaine Anonymous and other 12 Step programs are an intricate part of recovery for any drug of choice and the unique distinction that they hold can be an excellent treatment resource in adjunction to our residential recovery home.
